A non notable collegiate sports rivalry. Sports rivalries are specifically mentioned in WP:NRIVALRY. No evidence of substantial coverage through secondary NPOV sources Cardiffbear88 (talk) 09:44, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As for the football rivalry, see here (regarding formation of the football rivalry in 1971), here, here, here, here, etc. Cbl62 (talk) 17:37, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I’m not sure these are much more than WP:ROUTINE but I will leave it to other editors to assess them. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 18:08, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm unsure at this time: The football rivalry appears notable, but it already has its own article. The baseball rivalry has its own article too (I haven't assessed it for notability but will presume for now that it is notable). That just leaves basketball and potential for other sports and non-sports competitions. That seems to me to have navigation benefits and search capabilities that will help to make Wikipedia function just a little bit better. If I had to choose now, I'm leaning toward Keep but I'm not particularly enthusiastic either way.--Paul McDonald (talk) 15:32, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Like Paul, I find this one a bit confusing since the AfD does not cover the football rivalry (separate article at Bayou Bucket Classic) or the baseball rivalry (separate article at Silver Glove series). Cbl62 (talk) 17:14, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per the above, this is useful at the very least as an overview of the rivalries discussed at the separate articles. -- Tavix (talk) 17:17, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Looking at those articles, I’m not sure they demonstrate notability either, again they are very poorly sourced and may fall under WP:YOUNGATH, especially the lengthy list of stats. In all cases, it seems to me that there is a lack of coverage above and beyond local and WP:ROUTINE coverage. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 18:04, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
WP:YOUNGATH applies to high school sports and earlier. Inapposite here. Cbl62 (talk) 23:32, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK but I’m still not convinced the sources you’ve provided are more than WP:ROUTINE or that any of the articles meet the standards required of WP:NRIVALRY. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 00:07, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The references provided in the discussion above are feature articles, far beyond the "box score" standard set in WP:ROUTINE. They are clearly WP:NOTROUTINE. When we have time, they should be incorporated into the article. I'm much more solid in my position reported above.--Paul McDonald (talk) 13:28, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I'm not sure if this is a reliable source, but it does a better job describing what this is than a bunch of game recaps from the 1970s: [1] [2] also calls it a rivalry, as does the Houston [3] student newspaper. I would vote to delete based on the sources found above as those don't definitively describe a rivalry, but the rivalry is supported by WP:GNG upon further investigation. This really looks like a big "meh" of a rivalry. SportingFlyer T·C 18:38, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Not sure "CultureMap Houston" is a WP:RS, "The Cougar" is not WP:INDY, and the CBS Houston piece is a routine pregame story. That said, these sources and others from Newspapers.com do confirm that the cross-town, multi-sport competition between Houston and Rice has been considered a rivalry at least since the early 1970s. Note: The Houston Chronicle would likely be the best source for articles on this rivalry. but those archives are only available by subscription. Cbl62 (talk) 19:49, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
